Elkford Fire Rescue is welcoming it’s brand new Deputy Chief.
Enzo Calla has joined the department filling the spot previously held by the current Chief Curtis Nyuli.
Nyuli says Calla’s responsibilities will include serving as a training officer for the department.
“He’ll also do some emergency management in the valley here as well as a work experience we have coming up here, he’ll be in charge of that.” Nyuli says. “We have a sprinkler trailer we’re putting together so he’ll be in charge of that operation, as well as a number of other duties related to fire suppression.”
He says Calla was chosen for his large experience in emergency services, having previously served as deputy chief for the District of Taylor and platoon captain with View Royal.
“He’s been around the province and that’s really an asset when you come into a paid-on-call department like Elkford that does a little but of everything,” he says. “We welcome his expereince and we’re quite confident he will excel in his position.”
Calla’s moved to Elkford with his wife Paula, his first day on the job was Monday.
